Character Flaws

Monday, May 24th, 2010

It would seem that the last Wordpress update did that weird character insertion thing again. Please excuse the mess until I get a chance to fix the strangeness.

In other news, not much is going on. I’ve been doing a lot of transcription work, and haven’t published anything. With the weather improving, it may be a while before I get back to the business of writing. I’ll keep you posted.

Test post.

This post isn’t really about anything. I’m just testing Wordpress and Hootsuite integration. There may be a few of these.

Books out of print

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

For now, Scraps and Urban Discord are out of print. It was time to move on from Cafepress, for a number of reasons. I’m working on some other projects, but new editions of my first two books will definitely show up in the near future.

NaNoWriMo 2009

Monday, December 7th, 2009

I forgot to mention that after taking 2008 off, I entered NaNoWriMo 2009. Last week, I made it to the 50,000 – just under the wire – and won. That makes 5 participations and 3 wins.

The novel itself is an absolute mess of space ships, curses, aliens, zombie clowns, and one crazy soldier, but there are some elements that may be salvageable and find their ways into other projects in the future. Stay tuned!

First published fiction

Monday, August 10th, 2009

My first fiction stories have just been published!  “Scarlet” and “Elusive” were both published by online fiction site Postcard Shorts.

It’s a start.  The next milestone: To actually get paid for a piece of fiction.

Today I added information about my books.  Enjoy. :)

Bringing photography into focus

Friday, May 15th, 2009

Get it? Eh? I slay me.

Anyway, today was spent cleaning up some of the mess that upgrading to the new Wordpress left, as well as reworking the categories of my photography work.  I realize that the tagline for this site is “a living in words,” but isn’t a picture worth a thousand of them?

As well as reorganizing my web and print journalism pics, I’ve added a category for some of my more artistic stuff.  This will include the photos I’ve framed for my wall, given as gifts, or have available for sale.  Stay tuned for more.

Site update

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

I’ve just updated to the latest version of Wordpress.  The process didn’t go quite as smoothly as I had hoped, but it’s done and the new site administration features make it worth the bother.  Unfortunately it means that the site is a little wonky right now.  Bear with me while I get all the categories reorganized, photos replaced, and some of the funky characters in the text fixed.

In the meantime, the new contact form is up and running, so feel free to drop me a line.

Site update

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

It’s been a while, but I’m back to adding stories to the site.  Today, reviews of 1995 albums by Cold Water Flat and Elastica were added.  I don’t remember anything about these albums now, but it looks like they were pretty good.  I’ll have to hit the local used CD shop.

Photos published, and going back to school

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

While I’m still on hiatus from article writing, I’ve still managed to keep my portfolio minty fresh.  This month, Bill Joyce Real Estate tweaked their web site a little bit using photos that I had taken during my Belt Line Discovery Walk last year.  Pages with my pics on them can be found here, here, here, here and here.

In other news, I’ve signed up for Creative Writing and Expressive Writing courses at George Brown College.  I’ve been doing so much interviewing, transcribing and journalistic writing over the years that the creative side of my brain seems to have atrophied.  A couple of courses to knock the rust off the old neural machinery will do me some good.
