Cold Water Flat
MCA/Fort Apache
This album combines a skillful wall-of-guitar sound with lyrical sensibility, creating music that is very down-to-earth.
Neither dwelling in the clouds of unfathomable love nor in the depths of utter despair, it reflects everyday feelings that most of us can relate to.
Paul Janovitz on guitars and vocals, Ted Silva on bass and Paul Harding on drums have created some very intelligent songs. The eleven tracks on this album, from the first song “Virus Road,” are powerful testaments to the resilience of the human spirit. Cold Water Flat is a reminder that, although we may not always get everything we want and our mistakes might be big, somehow things manage to resolve. “Rescue Lights,” a song about watching a sure thing turn out wrong, will touch a lot of listeners with the lyrics “Except for this/ I can trust my instincts so well.” The following tune, “It’s Over,” seems to continue the story by speaking of changes and getting over things and managing to become friends with one’s self again.
Cold Water Flat has already received some airplay on commercial and college radio. Look for this album to be a success in several ways. Watch for their upcoming Toronto show at the Danforth Music Hall on May 26th with Julianna Hatfield and Jeff Buckley.
