Here’s another interesting piece of DIY culture. Cane is Ana Kravitz, her acoustic guitar, and a four-track (Lex Kravitz plays drums on two tracks, and Bernard Schmidling penned the lyrics for the song, “I’m So Tired”). Cane is eleven songs that stylistically and lyrically bring to mind thoughts of Louis Barlow’s Sentridoh recordings, with Ana sounding a bit like The Spinanes’ Rebecca Gates through most of the the album. This is slow, lazy music to play on those hot summer days when it’s too hot to move.
There definitely is something here, but as with most four-track recordings, the sound is muddy and badly mixed. More practice with four-track recording techniques may help Cane a little bit. Hopefully these home recordings will bring Ana’s talents to the attention of someone who could help finance a studio recording.
