Lee’s Palace
When these guys have a CD release party, it’s one hell of a party. Don’t Talk, Dance is a phenomenon that can happen only when friends play. The whole set had the intense energy of a basement jam, with deep grooves, lots of soul, and fun to spare. The list of visiting musical supporters present on stage with Don’t Talk, Dance is long enough to rival the special guest star credits on any given season of The Love Boat. Suffice to say, Chris Brown (Bourbon Tabernacle, Choir), Tyler Stewart (Barenaked Ladies) and Gordie Johnson (Big Sugar) have some very talented friends.
Rarely is Lee’s Palace so full of electricity from dance floor to front door as it was on May 12th. No one was safe from Don’t Talk, Dance’s assault, and everyone from Madonna to Marvin Gaye to Gordon Lightfoot to The Six Million Dollar Man (part of Don’t Talk, Dance’s “TV Vibe.” If you weren’t there, don’t ask), and the crowd got right into the funky musical mix. It seemed that the only people weren’t moving were those who were so drunk that they couldn’t move if they wanted to. With two drum kits, driving bass, brilliant keyboards and a horn section anchored by Gene Hardy and Dave Wall of the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, the groove was nothing less than infectious.
If you missed Don’t Talk, Dance this time around, don’t miss them again. These guys are out to have fun, and they’re all very busy. Hopefully they’ll be together for a good long time, but with the other projects they have going, it’d be a good idea to experience the ecstasy while the chance is there.
